One of the backpacking adventures from last summer. We spent a weekend in the Goat Rocks wilderness, a relatively remote place between Mt Rainier and Mt Adams. We hiked around 20 miles in 2 days while carrying quite a few founds, so after enjoying an spectacular sunset over Mt St Helens and having dinner, we just crashed in the tent.

I was driving up Mount Rainier during the winter season. I knew I wouldn’t have very good visibility because of cloud cover, but I didn’t let that deter me. I am delighted that I was able to take this photo because I love to think about what is hiding behind the clouds. Is there more to the mountain range? Is there a valley? The picture won’t tell us.

This is the view from the Pittock Mansion in Portland, Oregon. Right before the sunset, the city’s skyline is at its absolute best with Mount Hood with all its glory. I know there are many many versions of the same photo on the internet but who cares. It is a beautiful view that deserves the fame.

My family friends invited me to come with them to Lost Lake near Mt. Hood for a weekend. I decided to take my camera with me and find any shots I thought were cool. As the day was dying down, everyone went to bed and I sat there into the morning hours watching the flames wave back and forth with the breeze. I love this shot as it makes you feel like you are in the warm embrace of the fire, filled with energy.

This was taken at Mount Rainier National Park on our way to New York. We were anxious on the ride up because the sky was filled with grey clouds but when we arrived, it cleared up completely. It is hard to capture the sheer vastness of this mountain but this photo is an attempt at that.

We were driving from Portland down to Bend and we were really excited to pass by Mount Hood. Once we got a a nice view of it from this angle I knew that this one would be my favorite shot I took of it. This was shot from the highway just off side of the road.

Tamanawas Falls, a spectacular hidden gem, nestled in the foothills of Mt. Hood, having driven past many times, we decided that we should finally take a look for ourselves at this majestic waterfall. After a 2 mile hike, the stop was well worth it, and the absence of people added even more to the pristine and beautiful falls that met us at the end of the trail.

In our first Unsplash Expedition in Portland, we hiked to Trillium Lake in the Mt Hood National Forest. It was a lot of fun to hike to and walk on a frozen lake with fellow photographers, even if the weather wasn’t the best.

We spent a weekend on Herron Island in Washington. There are no natural predators on this tiny residential island so the deer have become the primary species. They’ve overrun the place. This one spent most of the weekend laying around the woods outside our Air BnB and his smile was particularly charming.

I was driving thru Fort Stevens State Park near Warrenton, Oregon when I spotted this bull elk. He was browsing next to the road, so I drove pass then slowly walked back on the other side of the road. He wasn’t disturbed, he looked at me and went back to eating. We pulled our car over to watch the sun go down over the pacific ocean by the Oregon coast. Noticed two individuals climb past the “do not pass” fence to get closer to the ocean.
